Who We Are...

The Friends of the Tell City - Perry County Public Library is a group of people who share a belief that a strong public library is essential for a thriving community. They work together to enrich the resources of the Library for the benefit of all Perry County residents.

What We Do...

Raise funds for the library to purchase equipment and materials that aren't within the library's budget.
Sponsor informative programs to enlighten and entertain.
Support the community by providing low cost reading materials.
Develop a strong community awareness of the importance of the library.
Volunteer to do special library tasks.
Act as hosts for receptions and tours.

Programs sponsored by the Friends of the Library have included:

Visit by Indianapolis Zoo (2000)
Author visit & book signing by Ruth B. Cook, author of North Across the River (2001)
Author visit & book signing by Dr. Gregory Gordon (2001)
Author visit & book signing by former Governor Edgar Whitcomb (2002)
Annual Schweizer Fest book sales (2007 sale - August 11)
Provide volunteers to help keep the library open during evening hours
Sponsored photographer John Bower (December 2004)
Hosted beginning genealogy workshops (April & May 2005)
Sponsored ghost writer Wanda Willis (April 2005)
Provided prizes for TAG group Poetry Contest reading for all Perry County Junior High and High School Students (April 2005)
Provided funds for TAG group to attend two movie events
Raised a record $1,200 for the 2005 annual Schweizer Fest book sale
Provided prizes for the Teen's Halloween Party during Teen Read Week (October 2005)
Sponsored Joy the Clown for the library's National Children's Book Week program (November 2005)
Provided gift certificates for TAG group members (December 2005)
Provided funds for library staff Christmas party

Purchases by the Friends of the Library have included:

“Constructive playthings” for Children’s Department
Information kiosk for new library building

Friends of the Library book bags are available for purchase at the circulation desk. Cost for "heavy duty" is $6.00, "light duty" is $3.00

When Do We Meet?

The Friends of the Library group meets quarterly to plan programs.
The 2008 meeting schedule is :

January 22 - March 25 - July 22- October 28

Why Should I Join?

Your contribution of time and money will not only benefit the Library, but also the city of Tell City, Perry County, and yourself, as well. You play an important role as a liaison between the community and the Library. Your interest and use of the Library will encourage your neighbors, friends, family and associates, to use the Library for their own recreational, informational and educational interests.

By completing an application one you can become a member. Checks should be made payable to the Friends of the Tell City - Perry County Public Library.
